In a recent unanimous decision, the U.S. Supreme Court deemed such practices unconstitutional in Tyler v. Hennepin County. 

Despite this ruling, Illinois counties continue to deprive property owners of their rightful assets, targeting the most vulnerable populations, including the poor, elderly, and minority communities.
